A City Came with This Home

Apr 14, 2020

The enforced at-home time that became a way of life in just the past few weeks puts certain things in sharper focus. Those of us fortunate to dwell in Atlanta townhomes certainly sympathize with our friends constrained in cities laid out more densely, such as New York, or those in which life’s support systems are more scattered, such as Los Angeles. Of all the neighborhoods linked by the green necklace of the Atlanta Beltline, perhaps none is better balanced for these times than the area of Poncey Highland, nearby Virginia Highland, and the Ponce City Market.

Here we enjoy the benefits of being embraced by a city, even as we are destined to spend more time at home for a while. Delivery of food and necessities, while not as effortless as before, is made appreciably easier here. Our pickup and delivery resources were always blessedly close at-hand, and we’re even more grateful for that than usual today.

To the Door – Yours or Ours

Whole Foods, on Ponce de Leon Avenue, offers delivery and pickup. It’s offering special hours, too, for patrons 60+, who can get a jump on in-store shopping at 7 a.m. to help assure appropriate distancing and take advantage of freshly stocked shelves before its regular store hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Publix Super Market at Ponce de Leon is open for in-store pickup, too, but many are taking advantage of the delivery and curbside pickup options they offer as well.

One of our favorite Chinese delivery sources, Chin Chin 2, remains open for delivery and takeout, and Marco’s Pizza on North Highland delivers, too. With groceries, Chinese, and pizza delivery covered, life among the townhomes here can proceed with a minimum of disruption.

Out and About

All in-person programming on the Atlanta Beltline is suspended in response to health guidelines now, yet the wide-open spaces that this trail system affords us are still a popular option for outdoor exercise and recreation, while we observe responsible social distancing.

Our Beltline connection is by way of the Eastside Trail. This gives us easy access to glorious Piedmont Park, as well, and charming and popular Candler Park and Freedom Park. For many, the chance to get outdoors while still taking care to follow health guidelines is making all the difference during this unexpected time we spend close to home.
